Shopping vouchers are classically printed on thermal paper. These papers contain bisphenol-A (BPA). They do not recycle themselves, but at the same time pollute the pile of paper into which they are thrown, making it non-recyclable.
That’s why it would be more correct to throw out these papers in the trash. Otherwise, by saying that we need to do something in good faith, we are actually cutting off the way for recyclable paper.
Although we are talking about chips, we should also talk about ”bona fide recyclability”. Bona Fide recycling means, as we say, throwing things that can’t actually be recycled, such as greaseproof cardboard, into recycling in the hope that it will be “recycled somehow.
” Just like plugs, oil cartons thrown into recycling (for example, pizza cartons) “pollute” paper in the same way and prevent recycling. But there is also a nice alternative to pizza cartons that make compost.
Let’s get back to what makes chips irreversible: BPA is such a thing that even touching the receipt is actually not very good because BPA is a hormone disruptor that can affect brain development, the heart and lungs. It can be easily transferred to everything it values, that is, to your hand, money in your wallet and even food in your shopping bag.
That is, it can be transferred to the mouth through food or absorbed directly through the skin. A recent study found BPA in the urine of teenagers in the UK.
The good news is that BPA-free papers have now started to be used. In some countries, such as the Netherlands, and even in our country, these papers are used in the vaults of some companies and are constantly becoming widespread.
BPA-free plugs usually have a “BPA-free” warning on the back of the plug. Another distinctive feature is to make a scratch on the coupon paper with your fingernail. Draw it on paper with your fingernail, and if you see a dark line, this indicates that it contains BPA.
Therefore, be careful not to touch the plugs with BPA, wash your hands immediately if you have touched them.
Another good news is that a bank drops the chips that it removes from the POS device at the end of each credit card transaction.
These documents, which are documents related to transactions, will now be able to be tracked from the bank’s customer application.
In addition, requesting an e-invoice instead of a voucher is also one of the solutions.
If you have tried everything, but have accumulated chips due to lack of system, I must remind you that the only safe place to throw out such paper receipts is the trash can. Although it is not ideal, it is the most effective way to isolate the chemicals contained in it.
